Spencer Schafer

Even though he is often one of the youngest people in the room at community meetings or gatherings with neighbors, Spencer has shown he has the demeanor of a seasoned veteran.

Director of Land Acquisitions & Development

Spencer joined his father at the familyrun real estate company after receiving  a degree in Finance at Michigan State University in 2019.

His first deal was an upscale townhouse project in the Brighton’s bourgeoning downtown corridor. In an interview with a local newspaper, Schafer said thatyou have this beautiful, thriving downtown commercial area and then you just have singlefamily homes,”. Along with his partners, Spencer believes that “there are a lot of people who have been locked out of downtown Brighton in the past because of this reality. Our goal is to create a variation of housing product and help bring younger people like myself back from the suburbs to our vibrant city centers.

Even though he is often one of the youngest people in the room at community meetings or gatherings with neighbors, Spencer has shown he has the demeanor of a seasoned veteran. He has the ability to connect with his audience on a personal level, showing that he cares about their concerns and creating a housing community that is beneficial to everyone, including the broader community. He believes that “it is not just about our buyers and the economics. We live in a capitalist society and dollars and cents are a huge factor, but in today’s dayandage, sustainability and our impacts to our neighbors are just as important”. Working in unison with the community and nearby homeowners is the way that Schafer looks to change the “my way or the highway” developer stereotype. He credits his father, summer internships with Pulte Homes and PM Environmental for teaching him how the industry works.

Impact

As his father has taught him, survival is about adapting and being ahead of future trends. Schafer understands that “there is a huge affordability crisis in housing across our country. Over the next decade, it is my hope that I can do a small part to create development that serves those who have been left out of the marketplace”.
